Liposuction Eliminates Stubborn Fat

Liposuction eliminates the stubborn fat in parts of the body where fat cells tend to accumulate such as on the tummy, hips, thighs, and upper arm. Liposuction is particularly effective for people who have lost weight and still carry around stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Also, some people are resistant to losing fat in certain parts of the body due to heredity. Liposuction is effective then as well.
Over the last several years, liposuction techniques have become safer, and the procedure itself has become one of the most popular plastic surgeries. It is often performed in conjunction with other plastic surgeries such as a tummy tuck or breast augmentation. Also, it is common for several sites on the body to be worked on during one procedure. Specifically, liposuction is a good option for men who develop breast tissue or women who don’t want to risk having obvious scars after a breast reduction surgery.
The effectiveness of the surgery depends on personal factors. For example, patients who undergo liposuction should not be significantly overweight, and people who are overweight should not expect drastic results from liposuction. Typically, a maximum of only 10 pounds of fat cells will be removed at a time. Also, while liposuction does remove fat cells, it does not prevent the patient from accumulating fat in the future. With poor lifestyle choices, the fat removed during liposuction can be replaced.
Liposuction is usually performed in a hospital where the patient will stay for a night or two to recover. The patient usually is administered a general anesthesia. The time the surgery lasts depends on how many sites are going to be treated and the technique that the surgeon chooses to use.
Liposuction is considered an elective, cosmetic plastic surgery and is not covered by insurance. Most plastic surgeons offer financing plans to help patients cover the cost of liposuction.
Patients should plan to return to work and normal activities in about four to seven days after liposuction. Severe complications are rare and include infection and scarring. Patients typically experience temporary swelling, bruising, and minor pain. Swelling subsides within a few weeks, but it may take up to six months to see full results of the liposuction.
