After the success of losing a large amount of weight, many people opt to have a tummy tuck procedure done to remove the excess skin around their midsection and restore the abdomen to its original strength and flat shape. Below you will find a number of the most frequently asked questions that people have about this body contouring option.

Are the results of a tummy tuck permanent?

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is not a replacement for proper diet and exercise. Your body will gain weight just the same as it did before the procedure. Maintaining proper diet and exercise will help you to maintain your new and improved shape.

Is a male tummy tuck different from a female tummy tuck?

The procedure will vary slightly to accommodate the patient’s shape, however the essentials are the same. If a patient is also undergoing liposuction, this procedure will differ slightly to account for the increased firmness of male fat.

How long does it take to recover from a tummy tuck?

Tummy tucks require between two and four weeks of recovery time before you are able to return to regular activities. For about seven weeks following the procedure, you will be required to wear a compression band, similar to a girdle, to help prevent swelling. After the seventh week you will be able to resume moderate activities such as exercise.

When will I see results?

You will notice a significant improvement immediately. Your compression band will maintain your appearance while your body heals. Final results will be visible within six weeks.

When will I be able to return to work?

Most people return to work and their full array of daily activities within one month of their surgery. At this point, you will also be able to resume moderate exercise.
